Not sure where to go in Brisbane? Read part two of our exploration of the city’s urban centers.

Caxton Street & the Barracks

Historic Caxton Street means two things to locals: great seafood restaurants and Australian Rugby League (at Suncorp Stadium). Always a vibrant area, Caxton Street was once home to the Brisbane army barracks. The local watering hole – the Caxton Street Hotel (1884) – still serves thirsty locals today, while The Barracks (1860) have been transformed into an entertainment complex.

Paddington & Rosalie

Paddington and Rosalie contain some of Brisbane’s prettiest streets, which are lovely to explore on foot (as long as you don’t mind the odd hill!). Brave the inclines and you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous old Queenslanders (iconic pre-war homes that were built on stilts with a wide veranda), cute cafes, antique shops and fashion boutiques.

Milton & Park Road

One of Australia’s biggest beer exporters calls Milton Road home and a tour of the XXXX Ale House and Brewery is high on many visitors’ to do list. Wander down Italian-flavored Park Road, grab a gelato or a coffee and head towards the river. The heritage-listed Regatta Hotel (1870) here is one of Brisbane’s oldest pubs.

Kelvin Grove

Home to Queensland University of Technology and Australia’s only ‘theatre-in-the-round’, Kelvin Grove is the city’s young, creative hub. See a performance at La Boite theatre, check out the Red Hill Gallery and then take in the action at the heritage-listed Normanby Hotel (1889).
